Downtown Road Closures Expected

This weekend, Caltrain is urging motorists to expect road closures on San Mateo Avenue, Angus Avenue and First Avenue as construction crews begin installing the shoofly for the grade separation project.

Downtown motorists: Look out for road closures this weekend.

From 6 p.m. Friday to Monday morning, Caltrain is planning to close the northbound lane on San Mateo Avenue from Huntington Avenue to San Bruno Avenue East so that construction crews can install the shoofly tracks as part of the grade separation project underway.

Southbound San Mateo Avenue from San Bruno Avenue to Huntington will still remain open during the construction, but traffic cones and flaggers will be directing vehicles down the street in both directions.

One lane on Angus Avenue and First Avenue north of Pine Street will also be closed to traffic, Caltrain said.

Since July, Caltrain has been , which is expected to be completed in December 2012. Most of the work has been in preparation for building a shoofly for Caltrain, which will create two new tracks to divert trains around the current tracks while heavy construction begins on raising the tracks.

The shoofly and heavy construction are supposed to be finished by the beginning of next year.
