Grade Separation Community Meeting

Caltrain will hold an informational meeting from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, Jan.9 at Belle Air School, 450 Third Ave., to update the community about the San Bruno Grade Separation Project.  

Beginning Wednesday, Jan. 11 several streets around the project will be closed to allow for the final construction of temporary train tracks.  The temporary tracks, known as a “shoofly” in railroad terminology, will be used for train operations during the construction of the grade separation.  

Angus Avenue will be closed from 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11 to 4 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 18.  San Mateo Avenue will be closed from 11 p.m., Friday, Jan. 13 to 4 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16.  San Bruno Avenue will be closed from 11 p.m., Friday, Jan. 13 to 4 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 15.  To facilitate traffic in the area, San Bruno Avenue will remain open on weekdays.

Signs and construction crews will be on site to direct pedestrians and vehicles to nearby detours.  

The $147 million grade separation project will elevate the Caltrain tracks above San Bruno, San Mateo and Angus avenues.  A new elevated train station between San Bruno and San Mateo avenues will replace the existing station. The project also includes three pedestrian underpasses, one near Sylvan Avenue, one at the new station and another between Euclid Avenue and Walnut Street.

The community meeting will provide detailed information about the project and staff will be on hand to answer questions.
