Things To Know: Coaches Needed for San Bruno AYSO

Also, don't forget about Java With Jerry, Sunday's farmers' market, the Tanforan summer mall camp and the upcoming street closures for San Bruno Avenue.

Here are some important things happening around town that everyone should know about this upcoming week.

Today. 1-2 p.m. A Tanforan Summer Mall Camp activity will take place on the lower level by Old Navy. The mall camp activities are for children ages 5-12. The mall camp runs through Aug. 9 and features a new activity or event each week.

Today.  Beginning at 9 p.m. today until 6 a.m. Saturday, San Bruno Avenue between Huntington and San Mateo avenues will be closed to allow placement of street bridge structures above the vehicle underpass as part of the grade separation project. For questions, call 650-508-7726 or email sbgradesep@caltrain.com.

Saturday, July 14. The San Bruno AYSO league needs three extra coaches immediately. San Bruno has been awarded three Extra teams: a boy's under-14 team, a boy's under-12 team and a girl's under-12 team. If interested, immediately complete the coach's application and send it to Mike Yip at commissioner@sanbrunoayso.org. Extra Play is designed to provide options for youth to play soccer at a more challenging level. Sunday, July 15. 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The San Bruno Chamber of Commerce holds its farmers' market at its new location in the parking lot of The Shops at Tanforan, just north of the El Camino Real entrance.

Monday, July 16. This is the deadline for advance tickets for the city's youth triathlon, which will take place on Saturday, July 28. The event starts at 8:30 a.m. at City Park. For more information, call Jennie at 650-616-7184.

Tuesday, July 17. 10 a.m. Century at Tanforan will be screening another $1 summer movie.

Tuesday, July 17. Join and attend the S.O.S. (Save Our Schools) committee meeting from 6:30-8 p.m. every Tuesday night during the summer at the Veteran's Memorial Building in the community room. Wednesday, July 18. 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. An AARP-sponsored driver safety class will be held at the senior center. The cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-AARP members. You can register at the reception desk. The class will also be held on Friday, July 20 (you must attend both dates to get credit).

Wednesday, July 18. 2:30 p.m. LAFCO is holding a public hearing at the County Government Center in the Board of Supervisors' chambers to receive comments on its current sphere of influence report that is recommending dissolving the San Mateo County Mosquito and Vector Control District and transferring it's duties to the county department of public health. At Tuesday's meeting, the City Council voted unanimously to send a letter of support for the district. The public is invited to the LAFCO public meeting. Wednesday, July 18. 7 p.m. A shadow puppet show will take place in the library's community room.

Thursday, July 19. 7:30-9 a.m. Assemblyman Jerry Hill will hold his next Java with Jerry at the Half Moon Bay Coffee Company, 20 Stone Pine Road #A, in Half Moon Bay. Hill, D-San Mateo, represents the citizens of San Bruno and additional voters in the area. Jerry organizes these face-to-face meetings to allow voters to ask him questions or give him suggestions to allow him to better represent you in Sacramento.
