LaHood: 'We Will Redouble Our Efforts on Pipeline Safety'

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood visited the explosion site of the Sept. 9 fire and said at a press conference that stricter regulations will be imposed on the nation's pipeline operators by summer's end.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood paid a visit to San Bruno today to tour the Crestmoor neighborhood and site of the Sept. 9 pipeline explosion.

Congresswoman Jackie Speier and San Bruno city officials led LaHood and Cynthia Quarterman, the administrator for the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, on the tour of the explosion site and then to a PG&E worksite in San Francisco's Sunset District, where crews were in the process of replacing aging gas distribution lines that were installed in the 1940s.
