A group of San Bruno residents are planning a news conference Monday to officially call for the ouster of the president of the CPUC.
An online petition was recently launched calling for the removal of California Public Utilities Commission President Michael Peevey from his position following the commission's recent decision to suspend its hearings on the PG&E penalty case, which stems from a CPUC investigation that found multiple deficiencies in PG&E's operations leading up to the 2010 San Bruno pipeline explosion.
Critics also have blasted Peevey for allowing the CPUC to make the sudden decision to appoint a former U.S. senator to help mediate talks about the proceedings in what many are calling a backroom deal between the CPUC and PG&E.
The change.org petition has garnered more than 200 signatures, and the group of residents will talk more about the petition drive at the news conference, which will take place at 10 a.m. at the open lot at 981 Glenview Drive in the Crestmoor neighborhood.
Mayor Jim Ruane and Assemblyman Jerry Hill, D-San Mateo, are expected to join the residents to express their support for their petition drive.
