PG&E, CPUC to Be on the Hot Seat at Hearing
The focus of the state senate subcommittee will be the California Public Utilities Commission's efforts to improve utility safety in the years since the deadly San Bruno pipeline explosion.
A state senate subcommittee will meet today in San Francisco to hear testimony on the California Public Utilities Commission's efforts to improve utility safety in the years since the deadly San Bruno pipeline explosion.
The committee, chaired by state Sen. Jerry Hill released a report last month criticizing the commission for its lack of progress since the 2010 explosion, which killed eight people and destroyed 38 homes in San Bruno.
The report found that the commission did not treat safety as a priority and that its safety programs were "in disarray," officials said.
Those expected to testify include representatives of the CPUC and PG&E.
Assemblyman Kevin Mullin will also join the committee for the hearing. The hearing will take place at 10 a.m. at 455 Golden Gate Ave.
