Teachers All Aboard to Get Caltrain Riders to Support Prop. 30

The teachers will be riding Caltrain routes across the Peninsula to promote their support for Prop. 30—which they say would “put California back on track”—and opposition to Prop. 32.

With their theme of “putting California back on track,” Bay Area teachers will be riding Caltrain Monday along the Peninsula to promote their support of Prop. 30 and their opposition to Prop. 32, which are both on the Nov. 6 ballot.

Early in the day, starting with a 6:15 a.m., the teachers will hold a news conference at the San Jose Diridon train station.

After school lets out, hundreds of teachers will greet a core group of educators on the train as they stop at train stations in San Bruno, San Mateo, San Carlos, Palo Alto, Mountain View and Sunnyvale. A small 5 p.m. rally will be held to greet the travelers at the end of the line in San Jose.

“With Election Day almost here, teachers are riding the rails to share their messages about why passing Prop. 30 to prevent billions in cuts to our public schools is so vital,” Eric Heins, vice president of the California Teachers Association and an East Bay teacher, said in a statement. “Educators will not be able to advocate with a strong political voice if Prop. 32 passes and that voice is silenced by the millionaires and billionaires behind this attack on the middle class.”

Prop. 30, which is backed by Gov. Jerry Brown and the teachers association, is a tax on millionaires that would raise $6 billion annually over the next few years and prevent massive cuts to schools. Prop. 32 would prevent unions from using dues automatically pulled from employees' paychecks to sponsor political activity.

Sorry. I am voting No on 30 and Yes on 32.
Georgia Gerritsen October 28, 2012 at 05:20 pm
I agree. it's no on 30 and yes on 32 because yes on 32 allows the schools to keep the money for schools. 30 allows the state st spend the money the way they desire.

On the contrary -- I am voting YES for 30, and no for 32. 32 is especially dishonest - since it allows special exemptions for billionaires and SUPER PACS to allow them to basically BUY elections. It is funded by the notorious Koch brothers, who are billionaires and trying to make everything even better for their ilk. Proposition 30 is the one that protects funding for schools and local public safety. We have to carefully read these propositions!!

Georgia how do you think 32 allows schools to keep money for school? It is about campaign reform.

Please take another look at 32 if you are voting yes. It just gives more power to corporationns to influence elections. I think we've seen that doesn't work.
NO on 32

Governmebpnt needs more accountability not more money!! No on all tax increases and stop using children to pull on the heart strings of dumb voters. Anyone can see that this just gives Sacramento more of our hard earned money! If Meg Whitnan was voted in we wouldn't even have to vote on a tax increase. It's quite clear the democrats are ruining this state and that's why people are taking their businesses and families out of here.

Kind of ironic that the teachers are using the train to try to drum up support for Prop. 30 when all the money and then some that they say they need could easily be obtained by cancelling the proposed high speed rail project that no one wants but will cost us in the $100 billion range (and that's probably an underestimate).
Why not use that money instead? No to all new taxes. More money may seem like the answer here, but it is not. I've said it before and I'll say it again, we've been throwing money at this alleged problem for decades and the problem has not gotten better but in fact gotten worse. You'll have to implement pension reform and/or cancel the high speed rail first before I would even consider voting in new taxes!

Linda M,
Where do you get your voting information? It sounds like you just watch TV commercials. I suggest you read the lanquage and you will then realize you are wrong. It protects workers money from corporations and unions from taking it and using the money for political donations.

The other way does not work. I am voting yes on 32.

I vote, "No" to paying more taxes. If we want money to go to the schools, parents should give money directly to their local school. BINGO!!! end of, "How do we know the money is really going to the school"?

How about we use the money from your red light ticket!
