Who's Who and What's What

1. A new business, Summers Laundry, is almost ready to open at 560 San Mateo Avenue.

2. The following is an update from the San Mateo County Mosquito and Vector Control District:

The vector control district reminds readers that we are in tick season. To help protect yourself from ticks when hiking, wear long pants, boots and socks.  Check yourself for ticks and remove them promptly. Use 20 percent DEET to help repel ticks. Permethrin sprayed on clothing will kill ticks that hitchhike on you. The district's February 2012 entomology report summarizing their actions and containing additional info is attached. For more questions, call 650-344-8592.

3. The following is an update from last week's column:

In a , I reported and attached a letter from the San Francisco International Airport about its multi-year program to protect the endangered California garter snake and the red-legged frog in the open space area near the Belle Air neighborhood. In a letter dated Feb. 27, SFO said it was planning to give a presentation to the residents about the issue. Michael McCarron, the airport's spokesman, also just said that a presentation has being scheduled for the April 24 City Council meeting.
