Things to Know: Looking to Volunteer? Join Caltrain's Advisory Committee

Here are some important things happening around town that everyone should know about this upcoming week.

Tuesday, April 10. 7 p.m. The City Council meeting has been canceled. City Clerk Carol Bonner said the previously scheduled Tuesday night meeting was canceled due to a lack of business on the agenda. The next regularly scheduled council meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24, at the senior center.

1. Don't forget that the San Bruno Chamber of Commerce's seventh annual Showcase of Businesses will take place from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, at The Shops at Tanforan.  

2. The San Bruno Chamber of Commerce is organized for the purpose of advancing the economic, industrial, professional, cultural and civic welfare of the San Bruno area and San Mateo County. The Chamber encourages the growth of existing businesses, while giving all proper assistance to any new firms or individuals seeking to move to San Bruno and to support all those activities believed to be beneficial to the community and area, and to oppose those which might be detrimental. 3. As a reminder, the city's Draft Environmental Impact Report for its downtown transit corridors plan is now available. The comment period is open until May 12.

4. For parenting resources, check out the Children’s Health Council, which offers parent education classes, parent coaching, a parent learning center, expert advice and much more. Contact them at 650-688-3625 or visit www.chconline.org

5. If you looking to volunteer, Caltrain is seeking members for its Citizen Advisory Committee to represent San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. The CAC is comprised of nine volunteer members who serve in an advisory capacity to the board of directors, providing input on the needs of current and potential rail customers. Applications are due by Monday, April 30. The CAC meets the third Wednesday of each month at 5:40 p.m. in San Carlos, just one block from the San Carlos Caltrain Station.
