Here are some important things happening around town that everyone should know about this upcoming week.

Saturday, May 5. 9 a.m. Plan to join the city’s Beautification Task Force and Recology San Bruno for the 2012 Operation Clean Sweep. Meet in City Park between the gazebo and the recreation center. Equipment and tools will be supplied, and refreshments will be available after you complete your tasks. For more information, call 650-616-7145. Register on the city's website.   

Saturday, May 5. 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Experience San Bruno in a new way with Streets Alive. Learn about the classes and camps offered through the community services department and participate in free demonstrations of the classes and programs. For more information, call Danielle at 650-616-7180.

Wednesday, May 9. 7 p.m. The San Bruno Park School Board's meeting will be at Parkside Intermediate School.

Saturday, May 12. 9 a.m.-noon. The Bay Area Water Supply & Conservation Agency (BAWSCA) will be holding its first of two Landscape Education Program workshops at . The subject of this hands-on workshop will be to teach you how to install and convert to a drip irrigation system. Registration is required. Visit www.bawsca.org or call 650-349-3000. Saturday, May 12. 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Now is the time to sign up for the 2012 season if you are a new or returning San Bruno AYSO player. Sign up at the league's pancake breakfast at the  from 8:30-11:30 a.m. The cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children. Free mini soccer clinics will be held every hour starting at 9:30 a.m.

Saturday, May 12. 10 a.m.–9 p.m. The San Bruno Police Department, in conjunction with The Shops at Tanforan and the City's Citizen’s Crime Prevention Committee, will be holding Police Recognition Day inside the the mall on the ground floor. Numerous police vehicles will be on display and the various police departments will be handing out information. One or two K-9 demonstrations are scheduled to be held near the escalators. Meet your neighborhood police officers and obtain crime prevention information.

Saturday, May 12. Over the past year, BART has crafted a brand new bicycle plan that defines the strategies the transit agency will pursue over the next 10 years to double the number of passengers who access stations by bike. This is an update to BART’s first bicycle plan, published 10 years ago. The draft plan is available for review and comment through May 12 at www.bart.gov/bikes.  Comments and suggestions related to the draft bike plan can be sent to bikes@bart.gov.

Sunday, May 13 through Friday, May 25. Lifeguard training classes, based on the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Program, will be held to certify students in lifeguarding, CPR and AED for the Professional Rescuer, and first aid. Students must be 15 years of age by the last day of class and pass a swim pre-test (swim 300 yards continuously, retrieve a 10-pound brick from 10 feet and return it to designated spot).
