Today, 7-9 p.m. Pop Warner football signups will be taking place again at for the league's 2011 football and cheer season. Payments and paperwork can be dropped off at these locations and times. Practice season starts Aug. 1 and the first game will be several weeks after that. The Peninsula Pop Warner league—the largest conference in the Pacific Northwest Region, which includes Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada and Alaska—will have a fireworks booth at Bayhill Shopping Center, and they will be grateful for any support. Saturday, July 16. 8:30 a.m. This summer, the city will have its first ever youth triathlon, which will start at . Bring your swimsuit, bike and sneakers for the day of races. All participants will receive a T-shirt just for participating. See the attached flier for more information on how to register. The city must have 15 participants by July 8.

1. The city has a no-graffiti policy, which means that if you see graffiti you can call the anti-graffiti hotline and someone will remove it. Contact the hotline at 650-616-7141 or graffiti@sanbruno.ca.gov.

2. recently gave out several awards to honor students and parents who really helped to make the school great during the 2010-11 school year. Students Matthew Torres and Harmonie Ahuna were given Be Aware and Care awards. The award is named in honor of Raymond Stagnaro, who spent 21 years as principal at John Muir. Stagnaro worked in the San Bruno Park School District for 40 years, from 1960 to 2000. He began as a teacher and then became a counselor at Parkside Intermediate School. He then became the vice principal of Engvall Intermediate School. Stagnaro’s longest-held position in the school district was as principal of John Muir, which he loved. During his tenure at John Muir, he established a warm and welcoming community in which families and students worked cooperatively for the betterment of all. He taught staff, students and parents to notice the simple things around them, to be concerned and to do the right thing. All of these attributes are summed up in the school's motto, "Be Aware and Care." John Muir also honored several parents with PTA Honorary Service Awards: Colleen Ahuna, Jennifer Torres and Marcie Gigena.

3. John Muir also won second place in the school division and runner-up overall in the float competition at the . Student Jessica Lowery submitted the winning float design, and she was involved in building the float—comprised of different-sized hearts representing agencies and organizations throughout the city—along with other John Muir students.

4. The San Mateo County Mosquito and Vector Control District continually monitors and treats standing water in San Bruno all throughout the year. Each month the vector control district distributes a reminder tip slide on how residents can help reduce mosquito breeding. The main prevention method: dump all standing water.

5. The San Bruno AYSO Soccer League is open to all boys and girls ages 4 to 18, and their season is getting ready to start. The AYSO league comprises more than 1,200 players and a host of volunteers, including more than 150 coaches, more than 50 referees, plus people respoTnsible for fields, schedules, permits, uniforms, equipment and everything else involved in providing safe, fair and fun soccer for kids.
