Ordinance 1284 San Bruno Council Update

Ordinance 1284 Heads for November 2014 Ballot

At the July 22nd 2014 San Bruno City Council meeting, before an interested crowd of approximately 75 citizens, the Council, after a lively discussion in which a few residents spoke, voted to place the question on amending San Bruno City Ordinance 1284 to allow in the Transit Corridor Plan Area (only) the increase in the building heights and to allow above street parking on the November ballot.

I stand here before you to make two(2) requests:

1-     Please place on the November 2014 ballot a measure to modify our City Ordinance 1284 – ONLY in the Transit Corridor Area – to increase the building heights to those proposed in the TCP and to allow above ground parking structures

AND

2-     Please support the passage of this November Ordinance 1284 ballot issue and undertake a City wide public relations program explaining to our voters (1) WHY this change is needed in the TCP; (2) that there will still be multiple opportunities for our citizens to participate in and offer their support & objections before this Council for each and every future building permit request that included a building height above 50 feet &/or includes above ground parking and (3) that without these changes it will be almost impossible to improve and grow our business districts.

I have served on the TCP committee as well as on the Redevelopment Advisory Committee and I know the work and reasoning that has gone into the adopted TCP and that the TCP must be fully implemented, if San Bruno’s business districts are to be revitalized and grow.

Without the additional building heights and possible above ground parking, San Bruno’s business district is destine to dry up and fade away.

This November ballot issue will not pass itself.

The City has a BIG task ahead of itself to SELL the needs and benefits.

I will work to pass such legislation.

Please give me the reasons and facts needed to successfully convince our voters to pass it.

Thank You

Robert Riechel

San Bruno Chamber CEO Jamie Monozon spoke and her comments will appear in an upcoming article.

The City now needs to educate the San Bruno voters on all of the positive effects passage of this 1284 Ordinance will have for the San Bruno TCP area.
