Patch Whiz Kid of the Week: Isamar Ochoa

The 16-year-old Capuchino High student is raising money to fund her trip to learn history about the Civil Rights Movement and was instrumental in the Coats for Kids program.

Know a great kid who made Eagle Scout or did your local soccer team take the championship? They may be our next Patch Whiz Kid honoree.

Each week, San Bruno Patch will seek suggestions from readers for individual  kids, youth groups, teens and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments. We want to hear about these amazing children and teens and select one each week as the Patch Whiz Kid. Submit your nomination in the comments or e-mail the information to martin@patch.com.

Be sure to include all of the following information:

Patch Whiz Kid of the Week

Name/Age: Isamar Ochoa, 16

School:

Accomplishment: Isamar has raised more than $1,000 for her "Sojourn To The Past" trip that she is planning to take in the spring. It's a learning trip where her group will spend 10 days in the Deep South learning the history of the Civil Rights Movement. Isamar sent out 21 letters and testamonials asking for donations to support her trip.

Key to Awesomeness: Last October she was the door person for the program at the San Bruno Chamber of Commerce. She speaks fluent Spanish and was the main "go-to" person for the Spanish speakers who came to the event. She directed everyone in the right direction and made sure everyone was taken care of.

Isamar also babysits, helps at the office, works part-time at the mall, and currently has a job application submitted at Jack's to be a server. Believe it or not, she still manages to make good grades in her IB classes, have a social life and keep a good attitude about life. "Now all she needs is a driver's license," said Karin Cunningham, the San Bruno Patch moms council member who nominated Isamar.
