Patch Whiz Kid: Yuma Miyake

This sixth grader is a whiz at school, sports, violin and community service.

Yuma Miyake started sixth grade this year, and he is certainly starting with a full plate.

He gets straight A's, plays violin and sports and participates in community service.

“He is a hard worker and a very responsible, independent and helpful boy,” said Yuma’s mother, Mariko Miyake.

Yuma, how in middle school, finished elementary school with straight A’s. He said subjects like math, science and reading come easy to him and he doesn’t have problems with others.

“I listen and follow what people instruct or suggest, and it works well,” he said.

Yuma attends Japanese school every Saturday. His essay was printed in the local Japanese paper last July.

He also participates in school fundraising activities. He helped his mom raise money for the Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami relief effort.

“I think we should help each other," he said.

Yuma has been playing soccer for six years and baseball for four years. He plays for the Junior Giants baseball team every summer. He also surfs with his father in Pacifica or Half Moon Bay every Sunday morning.

Yuma also has been playing the violin for more than six years.

“If I practice hard, amazing music will come out of my violin,” Yuma said.

When he grows up, Yuma said he wants to be a soccer player, a surfer or a doctor.
