Petition Calls for Resignation of San Bruno Park Superintendent

According to the petition, the "San Bruno Park School District needs to find a trustworthy, respectful, and honorable superintendent." Do you agree?

An online petition was launched this week calling for the resignation of San Bruno Park School District Superintendent David Hutt.

So far, the petition—started on change.org—has garnered 42 signatures and calls for the community to support a vote of "no confidence" in Hutt as the top administrator for San Bruno Park schools.

The petition's author, Rich Falasco, a San Bruno parent, said he started the petition to capture what many other parents have already been saying. The concerns about Hutt's job performance reached a peak in April when he —Crestmoor Elementary and El Crystal Elementary. A number of parents at the meeting claimed the school board had been rubberstamping Hutt's recommendations for years without considering the detrimental consequences to the schools.

The school board eventually at the April meeting.

"To be caught publicly in lies and disgraceful behavior is offensive," Falasco said of Hutt. "From the recommendations that were torn apart by the parents and teachers, to his personal inappropriate issues, the man's time here needs to be over according to most."

One of the supporters of the petition said Hutt needs to step down because he hasn't been providing teachers and students with the resources they need to succeed.

"Mr. Hutt does not work for our children and teachers. He has no backbone to do the job that needs to be done and that includes making tough decisions," the supporter said. "Shame on you Mr Hutt. Please resign and let someone who really cares make the changes that are so desperately needed."

Falasco said he hopes the petition eventually leads to the removal of Hutt from his current position. Hutt has been the superintendent for more than a decade.

"I try not to judge the man, only the things the man does that effect others," Falasco said. "In my opinion, this man has gone too far on too many levels, and he should be held accountable."

Hutt responded to the petition in an email:

"I have a contract for providing leadership to support all children in their learning and professional staff in their work of education with the San Bruno Park School District through June 30, 2013. The high levels of student achievement in these difficult economic times is a testament to the professionalism of the San Bruno Team."

At least one school board member didn't want to comment on this story, but schools trustee Jennifer Blanco said she felt it was necessary to respond to the public about this issue.

"It is our duty and responsibility to answer to our community—the voters—on this matter," Blanco said in an email. "I do not approve of the direction our district is going in and I do feel it's time for new leadership."
