School District Discloses Superintendent's Salary

A San Bruno Patch investigation has found that the San Bruno Park School District superintendent has received four raises over the 10 years he has been employed with the district.

The superintendent for the San Bruno Park School District has been making $132,138 a year, plus benefits, since 2009, documents obtained by San Bruno Patch show.

When health benefits and retirement costs are factored in, Superintendent David Hutt's total compensation is $163,330. Additionally, he also is allowed reimbursement for $3,000 in expenses—a payment that has fluctuated over the years during his tenure as the district's top administrator.

With the to close Crestmoor and El Crystal elementary schools—a necessary step, he claimed, because of declining revenue and an expected drop in student enrollment in the coming years—parents and teachers have demanded to see the books on Hutt.

Many have claimed that Hutt's job performance has been detrimental to the school district in recent years and that the school board has been blindly giving him a raise nearly every year. An demands Hutt's resignation, despite the fact that his contract is set to expire June 30, 2013—unless the contract is renewed.

In fact, a Patch investigation shows that Hutt's last raise was in 2008. Besides that year, he received a raise in 2003, 2005 and 2006. He also receives several stipends, including one for having a doctorate, one for longevity with the district and a car allowance. Hutt was hired in November 2002.

In several open meetings, school board President Skip Henderson also has said that Hutt has received a "very good to excellent" evaluation every year. He would not provide any more details, claiming that information was not public.

According to state law, a superintendent’s employment contract must be ratified in an open session and made public. However, employee evaluations that are part of an individual’s personnel record are confidential.

The following is a breakdown of Hutt's salary and benefits for every year his contract has been renewed:

Mr, Kiely, When they cut school days, isn't the savings in that the employees who directly work withRead More and for the children are deprived of that many days of pay??? Do the principals also lose 5 days pay? Does Hutt lose 5 days pay? Do the board members lose 5 days worth of their stipend. In other words, is the bad tasting medicine swallowed by everyone in the school district in a sincere effort to cure the ills of this school district Or is it just the teachers and the classified workers who are called upon to attempt a restoral of good health, the direct result of poor management and less than admirable leadership that has brought about ths crisis??

Mr, Kiely, Somewhere I heard that they were considering stopping contracting out PE at a largeRead More savings. Was that discussed last week? I was not abe to stay the entire evening. I question why they would have contracted for PE at the elementary level. Isn't that what recess and the balance of lunch time was for? Physical activity??? Thank you in advance for your always knowledgeable answer to my questions.

District cutting school days? The District is showing an agreement with the union which will saveRead More $200K. It doesn't show where the money is coming from, but the amount makes it look like they are cutting 5 days from the calendar. Dr. Hutt said at the last meeting that the length of the school year was still under negotiation.
