Skyline College Exhibit Brings Together Artists' 'Visual Sounds'

For this week's Viewfinder, San Bruno Patch gives a sneak peek into a new art exhibit opening at Skyline College called 3 Corner Symphony.

's new art exhibit, 3 Corner Symphony, opens today at the school's art gallery.

The gallery features paintings, sculpture and mixed media creations by Gregory Wiley Edwards of Oakland, Fay Grajower of Boston and Malcolm Mooney of Calgary. San Bruno Patch got a chance to talk to Malcolm Mooney, one of three artists who collaborated on the exhibit, for an up close and personal interview about the new exhibit.

Mooney said the inspiration for his work was inspired by the idea of origami, the Japanese tradition of paper folding.

"And [I went with] the idea of shapes being made of paper without using any glue,” Mooney said.

The prints of the smaller pieces were display maquettes that Mooney created for a New York exhibition in February, all of which were then given away at a curatorial symposium in Alberta, Canada.

When asked about future plans, Mooney said he will continue to show and sell his art and that the show at Skyline is just one phase of the many works that he is doing.

“I also do oil paints, landscapes and watercolors," he said. "But, right now, this is fascinating the hell out of me!”

Mooney currently has an art show in Stuttgart, Germany, that is set to be moved to Berlin in November.

3 Corner Symphony opens today with a reception at 5:30 p.m. It will be followed by a free concert by Malcolm Mooney and the Tenth Planet in the theater at 8:30 p.m. The exhibit will be on display until Oct. 21.
