School Board to Address Construction Projects, Other Planned Improvements

Construction projects and teacher contracts are on Wednesday night's docket.

San Bruno school leaders will prioritize construction projects they hope to finish this year at their .

San Bruno Park School District voted on a in December, which included upgrading the district’s technology system, installing solar panels on all school buildings, replacing windows, remodeling the kitchen at Portola Elementary School and —although the school district is still short of funding the entire project.

The list being presented to the school board Wednesday also includes projects to replace utilities throughout the district, like replacing outdated air conditioning and heater systems, and perform a districtwide evaluation of the seismic safety of school buildings—a topic recently.

The board will also be voting on forming a citizen advisory committee to the district to find any surplus properties the district owns that could be use for alternative funding sources.

The district has been making a push to find more funding since finding out that property tax revenue—a major source of school district funding—would decline by 14 percent, or $3 million, this year.

The board already agreed to place a on the ballot if a special election is called by Gov. Jerry Brown. However, without enough support from the state Legislature, there is no guarantee the special election will happen.

A public hearing on the San Bruno teachers union’s labor contract will be held as well.
