49ers Linebacker Arrested for Alleged DUI

Aldon Smith is averaging more than one sack per game this season.

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith was arrested in San Jose Friday  morning on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and suspicion of marijuana, police and Santa Clara County sheriff's officials said.

Smith, 23, was arrested at about 7 a.m. after a solo-vehicle crash on Bentley Ridge Drive, San Jose police spokeswoman Sgt. Heather Randol said.

Smith was not injured in the crash and was arrested shortly afterward, Randol said. She said there was no one else in the vehicle.

The star linebacker was booked into county jail on suspicion of DUI as well as the marijuana offense, sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Kurtis Stenderup said.

He was released after posting $5,200 bail, Stenderup said.

Smith has 3.5 sacks through the first two games of the 2013 season for the 49ers, who are 1-1 and host the Indianapolis Colts at Candlestick Park in San Francisco on Sunday afternoon.

The team released a statement this morning regarding the arrest, "The 49ers organization is aware of the matter involving Aldon Smith. As we continue to gather information regarding this situation, we will have no further comment."
