Capuchino High's football team notched its first win of the season Friday with a 35-28 victory over Gunn High School (Palo Alto).
According to a coach, senior running back Justin Ewing made the key difference in the game at Gunn High's stadium, with an incredible 44 rushes for 494 yards and three touchdowns.
Cap's sports website reported:
The Mustangs sprinted out to a 14-0 lead, only to watch the lead evaporate in two successive Gunn drives. What could have been demoralizing turned into a motivating factor. The team hung tough and the teams were tied at halftime 21-21.
Behind a line that was working hard, Ewing ripped off several long runs to keep the momentum on the mustangs side. A huge goal line stand with 2:30 left in the game helped sealed the victory.
Cap goes into its next game Friday against rival Burlingame High with a 1-2 record in the PAL Lake division.
The game will be at 3:15 p.m. at Cap.
