The Capuchino High football team clinched the PAL Lake division title with a 45-13 win over Carlmont High on Friday.
The team ended league play undefeated with 4-0 record, and it will move to the Central Coast Section playoffs—the first time in a decade for Cap.
Cap had a rocky start in the preseason, only winning one of its first five games.
But the team made up for that during league play.
While the whole team has certainly gelled this season, senior running back Justin Ewing's numbers stand out in particular.
During the game against Gunn High (Palo Alto), Ewing had 44 rushes for 494 yards and three touchdowns, which broke the Central Coast Section single-game record of 424 yards—set in 1996.
At Friday's game, he had 30 carries for 297 yards, which means he is now only 254 yards short of the county rushing record going into the Battle of the Strip game against Mills on Saturday.
The Mustangs will play at Mills at 2 p.m on Saturday.
