The C&L Mudcats recently won their division in the San Bruno Youth Baseball League.
After beating the Sandwich Spot Rays in a best-of-three-game series, the Mudcats won first place in the AAA 11- and 12-year-old division, achieving a 19-4-1 record.
In Sunday's game on the new Lions Field, the Mudcats combined strong pitching and key hitting to keep the Rays at four runs.
Twelve-year-old pitchers Mario Vargas and Ricky Pasquet only allowed one run in six innings.
Other defensive standouts were catcher Marco Mauricio, 11, and Anthony Ghilardi, who made a diving catch in the outfield to keep the team afloat in the middle of the game.
Key hits came from Adrian Colmenares (2-3 with two runs scored), Matthew Volkman (triple) and Pasquet (double, three RBIs).
The final score of Sunday's game was 8-4.
