Parkside Clinches Win In Posy Parade Match

Parkside Intermediate's baseball team won 2-1, but strong pitching from both teams made for a tight game.

For the last five years, St. Robert’s Catholic School’s baseball team has won the annual Posy Parade match against Parkside Intermediate School at Tom Lara Field.

But this year Parkside took the win 2-1 on Sunday, in a pitcher’s duel accompanied by stunning defensive plays throughout the game.

All of Parkside's scoring took place in the beginning, as their batters brought in the team’s only runs of the game in the top of the first inning. St. Robert's followed up with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning, but Parkside starting pitcher Joe Galae kept them scoreless for six innings. Tony Pellegrini closed the game out for Parkside in the seventh inning.

St. Robert’s pitchers Nick Mogannam, Patrick Lynch and Brian Kious also pitched well for their team, coaches said.

While strong pitching kept hits to a minimum, the game had a few spectacular moments on defense.

St. Robert’s seventh-grader Cole Galli robbed two hits in centerfield, as did eighth-grader Robert Jauregui at shortstop.

“It was exciting to see the stands filled. There were a lot of good players,” said St. Robert’s coach Rich Jauregui. “It’s exciting to see that San Bruno still has a rich tradition in baseball.”
