PEE WEE BASEBALL: After First-Place Season, Hurricanes Sticking to Fundamentals
San Bruno Patch sits down with the coach of the San Bruno Pee Wee League's Hurricanes to talk about the top team last season.
The San Bruno Pee Wee Baseball League just started back up again, and the new season is in full swing. The Hurricanes took first place last year in the 7-year-old through 10-year-old age group. San Bruno Patch sat down today with the team's coach, Bob Blair, after a very close game against the Lions to discuss what he thinks about this year's team and what he expects for the season.
San Bruno Patch: What was your team's biggest strength last year?
Bob Blair: Our biggest strength was we played as a team. The kids worked together well. We played as a team and it was a total team effort.

Patch: What are you going to do different this year with your team?
BB: I've been doing this for 30 years. We do a lot of stations, we work on fundamentals, and I do the same thing every year. We break into three or four groups—station to staiton—work on catching fly balls, catching ground balls, hitting and base running.

Patch: Who was the star of today's game?
BB: I would have to say Cruz Thompson, my shortstop. He was a leader out there. He was in the game before the play telling the players what the next play was going to be like and helping them out. When kids struck out, he was patting them on the back. Out there in the field, his plays were going on, and he was leading the kids in the dugout.
Patch: What team in the league is your biggest competition and why?
BB: We truly play one game at a time so our competition is the next game. So our competition is really against ourselves and truly trying to do something new and different every game.
