Tudury Looks to Continue Tradition of Great Pitchers at Cap

The Capuchino High senior has emerged this season as a star pitcher on the softball team. She is also an excellent student in the classroom.

This season may be the last for Capuchino High senior softball player Gabby Tudury. But she has made every day worth it.

She has spent the last three years in the shadow of star pitcher Michele Pilster, who last year helped the team claim its first Central Coast Section championship in 14 years.

Despite the pressure on the team to repeat last year's triumph and the fact that the team lost some key players, Gabby has come into her own as a pitcher and has already made her mark. In a recent game against Terra Nova High (Pacifica), she had 10 strikeouts in five innings. She is also an excellent student in the classroom.

San Bruno Patch caught up with Gabby for a quick Q&A.

San Bruno Patch: For the last three years, Capuchino's softball team has had Michele Pilster as the main pitcher. How has it been following in her footsteps?

Gabby Tudury: I've definitely felt some pressure since she's left. But I've been working really hard especially during the offseason and over the summer to improve my skills as a pitcher. It's also been awesome to play with such a great defense behind me that I know I can rely on.

Patch: What has been the highlight of your softball career so far?

Gabby: The highlight of my softball career so far has been winning the CCS championship this past season. It was such an amazing feeling to win with such a close team that worked so hard together. It was a really great experience.

Patch: What did you to get ready for this year's season?

Gabby: I have been playing for an 18GOLD team over the summer called the Inferno, so I practiced a lot with them and got quite a lot of pitching time during tournaments throughout the summer. I also continued to go to pitching lessons each week with my coach Martha Vargas.

Patch: How do you balance school with athletics?

Gabby: That's a tough one. I try my best not to procrastinate and get everything I need to do done as soon as I can. Practices and games don't really conflict much with my homework and assignments, but I do try to make time for homework afterwards.

Patch: What are your plans after high school?

Gabby: I've been accepted and have committed to San Diego State University, so I'm really excited to start a new chapter of my life down there, experience new things and meet new people.
