Here are some important things happening around town that everyone should know about this upcoming week.
Today. 10-11:30 a.m. Assemblyman Jerry Hill will be holding a Seniors Against Investment Fraud Prevention seminar at the Twin Pines Senior & Community Center, 20 Twin Pine Lane, in Belmont. RSVPs are encouraged, but walk-ins will be welcome. For questions, call 650-349-1900.
Today. 6 p.m. The next Concerts at the Park event will take place in City Park at the Rotary Pavilion. Tonight, “Department of Rock” (party rock) will be performing. The San Bruno Chamber of Commerce will be selling wine for your adult enjoyment; $5 (includes wine glass), $3 refill, $20 full bottle. Wines served are available at the Bayhill Mollie Stone's. The Youth Activities Committee will also be selling snacks every week. Rib Shack will be selling food.

Saturday, Aug. 11. 10 a.m.-1 p.m. A Safety Car Seat Installation Inspection will take place at the Orange Park (South San Francisco) parking lot across from the swimming pool. Sponsored by Assemblyman Jarry Hill and the City of South San Francisco. Reservations at 650-829-3950 preferred but drive-ups will be worked in. This is also your chance to discuss with Assemblyman Hill your concerns and suggestions for Sacramento legislation.
Sunday, Aug. 12. 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The San Bruno Chamber of Commerce holds its weekly farmers' market at its new location in the parking lot of The Shops at Tanforan, just north of the El Camino Real entrance.

2. National Night Out was celebrated in San Bruno by a group put together by Kris Gonzales in the Grundy Park picnic area, where neighbors from the surrounding six to eight blocks hung out and shared their contact information. Some agreed to become a new Neighborhood Watch captains. As a result of the get-together, in the near future, there should be a number of new additional Neighborhood Watch Block Groups manned by more residents using their eyes and ears for a safer city.
3. The San Mateo County Mosquito & Vector Control District reported that chronic West Nile virus had recently been found in two dead birds: a House sparrow from Atherton and a Canada goose from San Mateo. Both were picked up on July 31 and tested at the Center for Vector Borne Diseases at UC Davis.
The vector control district does not currently plan to issue a press release for these findings, as the birds each had a low-level or chronic positive level of the virus. These birds likely died of causes other than their West Nile virus infection and may or may not have been infected with the virus in our county.
As a precaution, the vector control district is conducting extra mosquito trapping in the neighborhoods where the birds were found. The district will test any vector species of mosquito trapped but do not anticipate finding a current virus risk.
The district also received the test results back from mosquitoes trapped near the site of the chronic WNV-positive squirrel found in Menlo Park in early July. All mosquitoes trapped from this area over two weeks in July tested negative for West Nile virus.
As a reminder, the district reminds everyone to dump all standing water and report dead birds and squirrels to 1-877-WNV-BIRD. Also, don't forget to use repellent.
