Relay For Life San Bruno Event on April 26-27, 2014
Each year, more than 4 million people in over 20 countries raise much-needed funds and awareness to save lives from cancer through the Relay For Life movement. Relay For Life is an organized, overnight community fundraising walk and the City is proud to be a sponsor of the event this year. The San Bruno Relay will take place on April 26 - April 27, 2014 for 24 hours from 10:00 am - 10:00 am at Capuchino High School, 1501 Magnolia Avenue, San Bruno. Water Conservation
This past fall and winter has been one of the driest years on record across the state of California. At the State level, Governor Brown has declared a drought emergency and has asked California residents and businesses to reduce their water consumption by at least 20%.

At the local level, San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) has issued a statement today requesting a voluntary 10% reduction on the SF Regional Water System in response to the dry weather conditions and to ensure that available water supplies are prudently managed.
In coordination with this local advisory, the City of San Bruno is asking residents and businesses to conserve water to help meet the 10% voluntary reduction goal that will help preserve Hetch Hetchy’s and our own groundwater’s valuable resources.
The SFPUC is closely monitoring water levels in the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir and snow pack data. Within the next 90 days, the SFPUC will have survey data from snow pack depths and reservoir resource levels throughout the SF Regional Water Supply to share with other water agencies. The data results will allow water agencies to develop their specific water supply strategies for the future. Residents of San Bruno are requested to follow water conservation practices at all times. The City will update residents on any changes made to the request of a 10% voluntary reduction when new information is available.

Police Warning Residents of Recent Burglaries
The San Bruno Police Department wants to inform residents of a recent increase in residential burglaries in San Bruno. The crimes are not specific to one neighborhood and have occurred at homes in different areas of the City. Investigators are continuing to work on apprehending those responsible for these crimes, and have partnered with investigators in other jurisdictions in San Mateo County that have also experienced a recent increase in these crimes.

The City of San Bruno has several Citizen Advisory Commissions, Boards and Committees, whose volunteer members are San Bruno residents appointed by the City Council. Members meet in the evening, once a month or less, serving staggered four-year terms that expire in October of every even year, at that time they may wish to seek re-appointment for another term. Ban On Plastic Shopping Bags Begins Earth Day 2013
On Earth Day, April 22, 2013, the San Mateo County Reusable Bag Ordinance will launch, requiring that County retailers no longer provide customers with plastic carry-out bags. On that day, San Mateo County joins other cities and counties that encourage the use of reusable bags, promoting healthier environments for citizens through the decreased use of single-use plastic bags.
The ban will apply to all County retail outlets, including grocery stores, convenience stores, pharmacies and other shops. It does not apply to plastic bags used for restaurant food take-outs or for produce, meats, bulk foods and prescription medicines. Shop owners are encouraged return any unused plastic bags to their vendors for repurposing and/or refund.
If retail customers do not bring a reusable bag, the retailer will charge them 10-cents per paper bag until Jan. 1, 2015, after which a 25-cent per bag charge may apply. Shoppers using reusable bags are encouraged to practice “healthy bag habits” that include washing reusable bags regularly to remove bacteria and other potential food contaminants. PG&E Settlement Not-For-Profit
In April 2012, the City reached a settlement agreement with PG&E for $68.75 million and five vacant property lots valued at $1.25 million. This legally binding agreement specifies that a Not for Profit entity shall be established to manage the use of the funds for the benefit of the entire City and can not can be used for general City operations. The funds from this settlement agreement are distinct and separate from the $50 million trust agreement to specifically benefit the Crestmoor neighborhood.
