City Manager Jackson

As your representative to the San Mateo County Mosquito & Vector Control District, I just want to update you on last night’s need to fog in the San Mateo zip code 94401 and Ladera zip code 94028 areas.

Find out what's happening in San Brunowith free, real-time updates from Patch.

I provided the Council a copy of the District’s Saturday Press Release detailing new detections of adult mosquitoes carrying West Nile Virus collected July 18th.

The District has again ramped up its proactive activities in these two zip code areas and will advise should any additional areas show detected adult mosquitoes and or show the need to fog the same or any new zip code area(s).

The District advises: “Adulticide applications help to reduce the spread of virus.  In addition to fogging, we are always treating local sources (fish ponds, pools, etc.), monitoring our bird/chicken population, continuing public outreach, running the seasonal catch basin program, and conducting follow-up surveillance.  Our staff is doing everything we can to reduce the spread of this disease.”

Residents with questions can always call the District M-F 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Remember the 4 D’s

DRAIN – Mosquitoes lay their eggs on standing water.  DUMP all standing water.

DAWN & DUSK – Mosquitoes bite in early morning and early evening – wear proper clothing and repellent if outside during these times.  Make sure doors and windows have tight-fitting screens.

DEET – Apply insect repellent containing DEET, picaradin, oil of lemon eucalyptus or IR3535 according to label directions.

If you find a freshly killed (not run over by a car) BIRD or squirrel Please call 1-877-WNV-BIRD

Additional info can be found at:  www.WestNileVirus.ca.gov

Again, the District wants to thank the City, its staff, and residents for assisting in “Fighting The Bite”.

I just received District notice that an additional bird tested positive, so I expect to provide you yet another update soon.

Thank You

Robert Riechel
