Business Corner: TXT L8TER!

Texting while driving? I have a few strategies to help you put the phone down while in the car.

More than 50% of teens in the Bay Area text while driving.

Texting, Facebook-ing, and E-mailing are daily habits of mine and I bet they are habits of yours too. Once we are caught up in this world of technology, it is hard to stop. Please do not bring these habits with you into the car!

Quitting is easier than you think. Here are a few suggestions::

  • Teens: Assign a designated texter! When in the drivers seat, hand your phone to a passenger who will be responsible for sending and responding to any important texts that come in. Now you will be able to keep your eyes on the road.
  • Parents: Be a Role Model! Adults are just as bad. Pull over to take a call or text. Go the speed limit. Assign a designated texter. Be the kind of driver you want them to be.
  • Young Adults: You can't afford it! In addition to the obvious consequence of your texting while driving habit (car accident, injury, death)... you can't afford it! In San Mateo County, you can expect to fork out a minimum of $159~ up to $279. Put your phone away!

Texting while driving needs to be discussed in every household. You can save your childs life by having this conversation. You can save your own life leading by example.

Be direct. Be confident. Be safe.
