The oldest children's parade in the United States, first held in 1941 as a "Festival of Flowers" dedicated to children. This non-motorized parade included floats such as buggies, carriages, and wheelbarrows where flowers predominated in the decoration. A selected San Bruno school girl was the parade princess set to lead the parade accompanied by her court of other young girls. It has now evolved into a community event for baseball teams, elementary schools, and mothers clubs to decorate floats to display in the parade. Every Year there is a different theme to follow, but one tradition that has not been lost is the major role flower decorations must play in each float.
