San Bruno Woman to Be Honored by Peninsula Family Service

The organization's annual event pays tribute to people who have served Peninsula families over the years.

A San Bruno woman is one of two people who will be honored by Peninsula Family Service next month during the organization's annual "Winners" event.

Olivia Muñoz, a widowed mother of five who in 1999 started working as a custodian at Peninsula Family Service’s Leo J. Ryan Child Development Center and Club Leo J. Ryan School-aged Program in South San Francisco, will receive the “Families Moving Forward Award.”

Muñoz and Ruth Wisnom, an honorary life board member for the organization, will be honored at Peninsula Family Service's 17th annual “Winners” event on Sept. 12 at the Menlo Circus Club in Atherton. Peninsula Family Service is a San Mateo-based nonprofit organization that provides people with support and education services.

Before Muñoz began working for Peninsula Family Service, she was an active parent-volunteer at the Child Development Center, where two of her children were enrolled. Now, she is a teacher’s assistant at the center, where three of her children teach there and five of her grandchildren are enrolled.

"Olivia Muñoz demonstrates what one can do with determination and the support of Peninsula Family Service to move one’s family forward," Judy Swanson, board chair of Peninsula Family Service, said in a statement.
