This is unbelievable San Bruno News. Why did DA Wagstafe drop the ball on this violent murder case.…Read More Two killers beat & stab a young father to death! One gets NO Prison due to a plea bargain of guilty by reason of temporary insanity. The neighbors who live on Cypress Street all know this guy has been a criminal for over a decade and should have been locked up years ago. The other one is sentenced for Only 18 years in Prison for Guilty to voluntary manslaughter and was on parole convicted for other criminal acts. Over two years later we can not walk by where this nightmare of murder on Cypress Street happened. Sickening, shame on you SM County Prosecution. Prayers to the Victim's Family.

Why is there not a trial? These two have admitted to Murder and have changed their plea how many…Read More times? In reading the newspapers these two were going to trial this month? District attorney, Wagstaffe told journalists the prosecution felt vargas was sane at time of murder and it was for the jurors to decide. Doesn't Wagstaffe want our environment to be safe? What's it gonna take these two walking the streets of San Bruno in 10, 15, 20 years and kill somebody else? It is a crazy system and my thoughts are with Chris Chastain's family.

Thompson pleaded "guilty to voluntary manslaughter and assault with a deadly weapon."…Read More Shouldn't it be voluntary premeditated "murder" and premeditated "murder" with a deadly weapon. It amazes me how the justice system can downplay what really happened. "Three Striker" drug related felons get life in prison. I'm disgusted... I love you Chris.

The CPUC is recommending this fine, not the city of San Bruno. I live in the area too, & I think…Read More PG&E SHOULD pay the maximum penalty. Don't be complacent with PG&E just because they gave you money to get a new driveway, roof & a fresh coat of paint on your house.

The problem lies with the city of San Bruno. They want all this deep pocket money while the city…Read More doesn't care at all for the neighborhood residence where the explosion took place. I live in the area and satisfied with the way PG&E treated us. San Bruno city government is acting is a selfish unforgivable way. shame on you San Bruno officials!

Just wondering if they're local - or if this business was drawing people from other areas.
JB Davis (Editor) April 18, 2013 at 04:03 pm
Good question Claudia! It is standard procedure to ask for that information. In this case, the…Read More police didn't provide the "city of residence" of the suspects, but rest assured that I did ask and eventually that information will become available.

I'd like to think that what's next for the Avenue is a better environment for both residents and…Read More business owners there. I'm glad that there was a strong effort to stop this type of business. Thanks SBPD - and all the corresponding agencies. What's next ?- I think people need to come and support the businesses on the Avenue.
By the way - I'd like to know where the people who were arrested resided.

That is awesome! Way to go Eric and Facebook for being so thoughtful and making such a big impact…Read More ... the best kind of philanthropy.

No doubt that is a windfall for the District but I could not help but puzzle over how that could…Read More have occurred with a security system. And why is the deductible $10,000 on what was originaly reported as 22 pads stolen??? Does that seem excessive ??? How much does one of those pads cost ??? This is a pubic elementary school. Just curious.
If it is questionable as to why YouTube did not step up, one could also wonder why WalMart did not or the large real estate companies or anyone else that makes their profits located in San Bruno.Perhaps they feel their property tax is enough donation. I am surprised they are all located here anyway with the high cost of real estate.Perhaps we should not speak badly of YouTube for fear they will vacate and leave another empty building.

I don't think San Bruno is raggedy at all. I have been living here for close to 20 yrs. My…Read More children became adults here and two of my grand kids as well. Thugs from other cities like South City or Oakland go to other cities to commit their crimes because they will not be easily recognized. I think the Police Dept. does a good job. I had to call them twice in the past because of a suspicious car parked with door unlocked near my house for days. They responded quickly. Turned out to be a stolen car from another city.

Compared to my last residence in Richmond (east bay), San Bruno is a Garden of Eden. However, I'm…Read More always sad for anyone violated by criminal activity :-(
If you can afford it, I always recommend a video DVR system to augment your other security measures.

I would hate to think we have to compare our City to Oakland, to justify the increasing crime in San…Read More Bruno.

If I'd get a scam call like that, I'd report it to http://www.callercenter.com to raise a warning.…Read More Like what you do at patch.com, it's really helpful that we have easy access to articles discussing phone scams so we are better-informed and will have better chances of avoiding becoming a victim to them.
Claudia Quinn April 8, 2013 at 11:14 pm
Yes, someone called me last week. He said that he was referred to me by Jamie at the Chamber at…Read More that they had "chosen" my business to be featured on the magnet. The magnet was to be distributed to newcomers to San Bruno, I think. I just told him I had no money for this type of advertising. Didn't realize it was a scam at that time.

i was doing my laundry and saw the whole arrest...very professional and quick.and sadly, necessary.I…Read More can't afford to live in a gated community so i'll take San Bruno any day.
Victor Montoya Jr. April 6, 2013 at 01:58 pm
lol who wrote all these? The grammar is a little off. "was" instead of "were"

Wireless camera DVR systems are an excellent way to augment security systems. You can get a great…Read More one at Costco and from many other retailers for about $1000 to $2000. I love my camera system even though the image quality isn't the best. It brings additional security also to my street and my neighbors. El Crystal, I'm very sorry for your violation and loss :-(

That's a lot of stuff to carry through the park, and the streets around the school are cul de sacs,…Read More with hardly any place to park. How did they get close enough to get in and out so quickly? And it's not like it was that late at night -- there are plenty of people walking their dogs around at that hour. I hope somebody in the neighborhood witnessed something.
Are schools insured for that kind of theft?
It sure would be nice if some of those large tech and e-commerce companies headquartered in San Bruno could make a gift of replacement equipment.
Thank You Deputies Zuno and Hensel, You Saved More Than a…
