Unfortunately I was unable to make it to the meeting, but congratulations to Mr Flynn. I think the…Read More board probably made the right decision.
As for the SBEF, other members have left before and Scott Curtner joined a few weeks ago. I think there's enough enthusiasm and capability remaining to keep it going. It would be unfortunate if it relied on only one person.

Terms of service "encourage" people to use their real name, but if people were required to…Read More use their real name (and how would Patch enforce that?), traffic on this site would drop so precipitously...
Chuck Zelnik May 15, 2013 at 11:05 pm
I would hope in the future that people would use their real name insted of hiding behind a…Read More fictitious one. The Patch should look into this issue. What is left to be seen is what will happens to the San Bruno Education Foundation. Is this the beginning of the end?

Although Pope cautions college admissions' officers about weighing AP courses too heavily in making…Read More decisions, the fact is that highly selective colleges do want to see lots of AP classes on a student's transcript IF the school the student attended offered lots of those courses. Basically, what all those college will tell prospective applicants is that they want to see that a student has challenged herself with the most rigorous courses available.

I don't believe Shamar Shanks. You know she was fired and shouldn't be allowed to post anything. I…Read More will be glad when she finally plays out.

This is very important, great news! It looked as if Cap was at the bottom of the totem pole! I…Read More couldn't believe it! It was hard to believe because of all the cool, advanced IP classes, great grades, and honors I have been hearing about! Thank you!!
Chris Kiely April 10, 2013 at 07:59 pm
According to the District, the 41 students never attended Cap. We'll see.
JB Davis (Editor) April 10, 2013 at 06:04 pm
I'm not sure, but I did publish an article that shows the district's numbers for Capuchino.
Matt McGinn April 10, 2013 at 04:42 pm
I would like to know what happened to those 41 students. Were they "dropped" because they…Read More couldn't find help at Cap, or did they transfer out of the District?

That is awesome! Way to go Eric and Facebook for being so thoughtful and making such a big impact…Read More ... the best kind of philanthropy.

No doubt that is a windfall for the District but I could not help but puzzle over how that could…Read More have occurred with a security system. And why is the deductible $10,000 on what was originaly reported as 22 pads stolen??? Does that seem excessive ??? How much does one of those pads cost ??? This is a pubic elementary school. Just curious.
If it is questionable as to why YouTube did not step up, one could also wonder why WalMart did not or the large real estate companies or anyone else that makes their profits located in San Bruno.Perhaps they feel their property tax is enough donation. I am surprised they are all located here anyway with the high cost of real estate.Perhaps we should not speak badly of YouTube for fear they will vacate and leave another empty building.

Thank you Erik and Facebook for your generosity. This gift is truly appreciated.

Wireless camera DVR systems are an excellent way to augment security systems. You can get a great…Read More one at Costco and from many other retailers for about $1000 to $2000. I love my camera system even though the image quality isn't the best. It brings additional security also to my street and my neighbors. El Crystal, I'm very sorry for your violation and loss :-(

That's a lot of stuff to carry through the park, and the streets around the school are cul de sacs,…Read More with hardly any place to park. How did they get close enough to get in and out so quickly? And it's not like it was that late at night -- there are plenty of people walking their dogs around at that hour. I hope somebody in the neighborhood witnessed something.
Are schools insured for that kind of theft?
It sure would be nice if some of those large tech and e-commerce companies headquartered in San Bruno could make a gift of replacement equipment.

Mr, Kiely, When they cut school days, isn't the savings in that the employees who directly work with…Read More and for the children are deprived of that many days of pay??? Do the principals also lose 5 days pay? Does Hutt lose 5 days pay? Do the board members lose 5 days worth of their stipend. In other words, is the bad tasting medicine swallowed by everyone in the school district in a sincere effort to cure the ills of this school district Or is it just the teachers and the classified workers who are called upon to attempt a restoral of good health, the direct result of poor management and less than admirable leadership that has brought about ths crisis??

Mr, Kiely, Somewhere I heard that they were considering stopping contracting out PE at a large…Read More savings. Was that discussed last week? I was not abe to stay the entire evening. I question why they would have contracted for PE at the elementary level. Isn't that what recess and the balance of lunch time was for? Physical activity??? Thank you in advance for your always knowledgeable answer to my questions.

District cutting school days? The District is showing an agreement with the union which will save…Read More $200K. It doesn't show where the money is coming from, but the amount makes it look like they are cutting 5 days from the calendar. Dr. Hutt said at the last meeting that the length of the school year was still under negotiation.

I disagree that students should fight the intruder at their school. They should leave it to the…Read More teachers. Though I do respect that they help the student at their school.

Please reverse the order of these posts as I accidentally sent an incomplete post and am finishing…Read More is here. My point is that there have been enough rumors and accusations spread throughout all of this and that I think it is important to remember to choose our words wisely when we communicate about this topic.

"The reality is that the Board went out and bought a legal opinion..." I believe your…Read More statement, Renee C., is libelous not only to the Board, but also to the attorney that wrote the opinion, unless you care to share how you know this to be a fact.

The problem with "coming together" in this case is that implies we have to roll over and…Read More accept the board decision. The stated reasons for merging Rollingwood and Crestmoor were to save money, to allow the whole Crestmoor school to move together, and since both schools were so small the majority of students were in split classes, reduce if not eliminate this issue.
I don't think the decision the board made satisfied any of those criteria. Instead it was made so as to avoid at all possible cost the possibility that any Crestmoor student would have to move to Rollingwood.
We in Rollingwood were not surprised at this but are fed up, and want to just draw a line under the whole episode and work towards improving conditions in Rollingwood. However, the setting of priority status for the Crestmoor students is without precedent. We don't have a lot of leverage (if any) in Rollingwood, since we're dependent on the good will of the current board and district administration for our needs for next year, but making decisions based on expediency is plainly wrong, and we can't keep silent about it.
The district has to "come together" to ensure that there's reason for anyone to be concerned about attending any particular school. The priority of the district should be to ensure equality of conditions in every school for all students and teachers, and no school should year after year bear the burden of the district's financial problems - yes, I'm talking about Rollingwood here.

Who do you suggest we elect in November??? To my knowledge no one has declared their candidacy as of…Read More today. Weren't you a member of the school board sometime in the past Mr. Zelnik???
Chuck Zelnik February 18, 2013 at 10:33 pm
That said the voters need to take charge in the November 2013 election.

Well Chuck that is the million dollar question, isn't it? I don't have the answer and am frustrated…Read More with the entire matter. We are disappointed as a community cause by our elected officials, yet we keep re electing them. Who said the definition of insanity is doing something the exact same way and expecting a different result? I think we've forgotten as voters it's our responsibility to "fire" these people when they fail at their job. If we don't we fail our children, families and communtity.
