Known to many as "Mr. San Bruno," Bob Marshall Sr. lived and served in San Bruno for more than 50 years.
Bob Marshall Sr., the former mayor of San Bruno, longtime business owner and community leader who was known as “Mr. San Bruno” because of his years of dedication to serving the city, died Tuesday, May 8, 2012. He was 77. Marshall died of complications from a head injury he suffered several weeks ago, his family said. A proud father and grandfather, Marshall had been a staple in the city for more than five decades. He started Marshall Realty in 1959, and it has become a family business, with two of his children now working at the real estate company. Tagliaferri played football at San Jose State University and baseball with the Kansas City A's before buying Newell's Cocktail Lounge in San Bruno. Later, he bought the building that housed the bar. He also trained and bred race horses.

William Thomas Quickert of San Bruno passed away peacefully on March 5, 2012, at age 83. Born in San Jose, CA to Ruth and Thomas Quickert, the family moved to San Francisco/Daly City in the 40’s, where Bill met the love of his life, Norma Moore (“Skip”) in Crocker Elementary School. While attending Jefferson High School, Bill was a driving wheel in the family soda fountain and coffee shop endeavors, including Quickies on Mission Street and Quick-erts frozen turkey pies. In 1949 Bill and Skip began the loving journey of their 62-year marriage in San Francisco. In 1952 Bill began his 30-year sales career with Eng-Skell Co. restaurant supply. Welch was one of the largest property owners in San Mateo County and was an avid collector of antiques, particularly old slot machines.
When Joe Welch began building apartments in San Bruno, one of his most frequented establishments was City Hall. During that time, he had a close friend who worked for the city and building permits were easy to come by. So he started developing apartment complexes throughout town, first with four units, then with five and eventually up to eight, until he met some resistance from city government. “They started shutting him down,” said his eldest son, Joe Welch III. “They would say, ‘You’ve sold too many.’” That would be one of the many examples of Welch’s long—at times, contentious—relationship with the city, and that relationship would continue for years—from the time in 1999 when he unsuccessfully ran for mayor to the many years he spent …

Cox lived in Foster City for 24 years, and dedicated himself to the community.
Former Foster City Mayor and longtime Lions Club member Ron Cox passed away on Saturday. He was 61. Cox lived in Foster City for 24 years, and dedicated himself to the community. Last year, he was inducted in the Foster City Hall of Fame for his volunteer work and years of service to the city. Cox owned Cox and Sons Construction. "Ron Cox leaves an indelible mark in the hearts of those he worked with and served in this community," said Foster City Mayor Linda Koelling. "He unselfishly volunteered his time especially on behalf of the youth. I was honored to have served with him and be able to call him a friend."
