Greatest Person

Greatest Person of the Month: Sean Wada

This Parkside basketball coach has led his basketball team to many recent successes.

Parkside Intermediate coach Sean Wada has been playing basketball since he was in the fourth grade. When he was younger, his parents would take time on weekdays and weekends to drive him and his siblings to practices, games and tournaments, which he credits for motivating him to become a P.E. teacher and coach later in life. “Coaching gives me an opportunity to give back what I've learned from my parents, coaches that I played under and teachers that have positively influenced my life,” Wada said. Now that Wada is the head coach for the 8A boys basketball team at Parkside, he has found himself passing on those same lessons he learned when was a kid—and it certainly has paid off for the team. This year, Wada led his team to first place in …

SOFTBALL: Cap to Use Game to Take Swing at Breast Cancer

The softball showdown against Burlingame High was organized to help the fight against breast cancer.

The stakes for the next Capuchino High softball game have now expanded off the field, as today's 4 p.m. rematch with visiting division rival Burlingame High will benefit breast cancer research.  Senior captain Jennifer Lewis came up with the idea for the Breast Cancer Awareness softball game during spring break along with her father, Dave. They thought about doing an event similar to what San Francisco State University's softball team did by asking nonprofit organizations to help the cause.  "When I first told my teammates, they were all really supportive and they started pitching ideas on how to help," said Jennifer, 17. "They loved the thought of raising money and giving back to the community for a nice cause."  Jennifer reached out to …

Tudury Looks to Continue Tradition of Great Pitchers at Cap

The Capuchino High senior has emerged this season as a star pitcher on the softball team. She is also an excellent student in the classroom.

This season may be the last for Capuchino High senior softball player Gabby Tudury. But she has made every day worth it. She has spent the last three years in the shadow of star pitcher Michele Pilster, who last year helped the team claim its first Central Coast Section championship in 14 years. Despite the pressure on the team to repeat last year's triumph and the fact that the team lost some key players, Gabby has come into her own as a pitcher and has already made her mark. In a recent game against Terra Nova High (Pacifica), she had 10 strikeouts in five innings. She is also an excellent student in the classroom. San Bruno Patch caught up with Gabby for a quick Q&A. San Bruno Patch: For the last three years, Capuchino's softball team …
